Bihar Cabinet Approves Metro Projects in Four New Cities

The Bihar government, under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, has greenlit ambitious metro projects in four key cities across the state. This decision marks a significant expansion of urban infrastructure, aimed at bolstering connectivity and modernizing transportation networks.

During a recent cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, approvals were granted for metro rail projects in Muzaffarpur, Gaya, Darbhanga, and Bhagalpur. These projects are poised to undergo feasibility assessments followed by the preparation of detailed project reports (DPR).

Each metro project will see substantial funding support, with 20% of costs covered by both the central and state governments, while financial institutions are set to shoulder the remaining 60%. This financial arrangement underscores a collaborative effort to realize these critical infrastructure developments.

The groundwork for Patna Metro, initiated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2019, is already in progress, with five stations expected to commence operations by March next year. The first phase of Patna Metro will encompass both elevated and underground tracks, covering significant distances to enhance intra-city mobility.

In addition to metro expansions, the Bihar Cabinet also endorsed proposals to streamline recruitment processes through various commissions, including provisions for preliminary exams to be conducted in two phases if necessary. Furthermore, the flexibility of conducting exams both online and offline has been approved, ensuring accessibility and efficiency in the recruitment system.

Moreover, the sports department’s proposal to establish sports clubs in every panchayat across Bihar was also given the green light, highlighting the government’s commitment to fostering sports and recreational opportunities at the grassroots level.

This proactive stance by the Bihar Cabinet underscores a strategic vision to propel the state’s development trajectory through enhanced urban connectivity, efficient governance reforms, and widespread sports engagement.
