DDA’s Initiative to Reshape Housing for Slum Dwellers in Delhi

The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) is set to distribute possession letters to 1,078 beneficiaries of houses at Jailorwala Bagh starting from July. These houses are part of an in situ rehabilitation project named “Jahan Jhuggi Wahin Makan”, aimed at providing affordable housing to slum dwellers.

Out of a total of 1,675 EWS (Economically Weaker Section) flats constructed under this scheme in Jailorwala Bagh, 1,396 flats were allotted in March. Specifically, 1,078 flats were assigned to eligible slum dwellers from Jailorwala Bagh, while 318 flats were allotted to nearby JJ clusters. The remaining flats are still in the process of being allocated.

Beneficiaries have been issued demand-cum-allotment letters, and the formalities for issuing possession letters, including collecting beneficiary contributions, have been completed. The process of handing over flat keys and providing final possession is expected to commence soon.

Each flat, measuring 340 square feet, includes a bedroom, living room, kitchen, separate toilet and bathroom, and a balcony. The project also features modern amenities such as community facilities, sewerage treatment, lifts in each tower, and ample parking including a basement area. Green spaces totaling 9,257.7 sqm are integrated within the project site.

This initiative is part of DDA’s efforts to rehabilitate slum dwellers through in situ development projects. Previous projects include the construction of EWS flats at Kalkaji and ongoing efforts at Kathputli Colony and future plans for east Delhi clusters.
