Goa Govt to introduce low-cost housing scheme in every taluka

Chief minister Pramod Sawant said on Friday that state govt is in the process of introducing a scheme for low-cost housing in every taluka for Goans, with about 50-100 flats likely to be built and offered to native Goans for Rs 15 lakh.

Sawant made the announcement during the ‘Hello Goenkar’ programme, in which he also promised that the scheme would be introduced before the next assembly elections.

“Govt now wants to build 50-100 flats for Goan in every taluka, on housing board land or revenue land, at a cost of Rs 10-15 lakh. The scheme is at the draft stage, and we will decide how to allot these flats. In two years, we want to ensure that people get their own homes and shift into these homes. We will try to bring out this scheme as early as possible,” said Sawant. With property prices skyrocketing and land being scarce, the common Goan cannot afford to purchase a home in Goa. “The homes under the 20-point programme, in which 100sqm is given, is not good enough today,” said Sawant.

With many Goans living on land that belongs to landlords or on comunidade land, they are unable to expand their homes to meet the needs of growing families, said Sawant.

The CM also said that instructions have been issued to govt officials to keep a sharp watch on hill cutting and conversion of slopes in the state. Sawant urged village panchayats to revoke permissions if hill cutting is noticed. He also said that there is nothing wrong if the TCP ministry decides to review the permissions granted to mega-housing projects and luxury homes.

Sawant also announced that with the third round of e-auction of mining blocks completed, truck owners and other workers from Pissurlem will start to get work tentatively by November.
