Maharashtra Government Signs MoU for Construction of 12,000 Affordable Homes for Dabbawalas and Charmakars

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced a significant initiative to provide affordable housing in Mumbai for dabbawalas and members of the charmakar (cobbler) community. Under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY), 12,000 homes will be constructed over the next three years, marking a major step in improving housing for these essential workers.

Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis highlighted the importance of this initiative, noting that “For more than 100 years, dabbawalas have served Mumbaikars. This scheme will fulfill their dream of owning a house in Mumbai within three years.” The housing project is designed to address the longstanding need for affordable living spaces among these crucial workers who contribute significantly to Mumbai’s daily life and economy.
