In a significant development for the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project, Afcons Infrastructure celebrated the launch of the first segment of the extradosed bridge over the Narmada Canal. This bridge is part of the 14.36 km Package C1 of the Phase 2 project, which also includes the construction of the 810m Sabarmati River Bridge.
The Narmada Canal extradosed bridge spans 303m and features six piers. Afcons Infrastructure, the project contractor, marked the occasion by launching the first of 105 precast box segments for this bridge, located north of Ahmedabad city. The completed pylons, designated as P4-14 and P4-15, stand at an impressive height of 36.5 meters and will eventually incorporate nine stay cables each.
Gujarat’s Chief Minister recently visited the construction site situated between Narmada Canal Station and Koba Circle Station to inspect the progress. The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) awarded Afcons the construction contract for Package C1 in the fourth quarter of 2020. This package encompasses the elevated section from Motera Stadium to GNLU, featuring eight stations at key locations such as Koteshwar Road, Vishwakarma College, Tapovan Circle, Narmada Canal, Koba Circle, Juna Koba, Koba Gam, and GNLU.
Additionally, Package C1 includes a 5.42 km section from GNLU to GIFT City, incorporating a bridge over the Sabarmati River and stations at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City). The overall progress is a testament to the advancements in Ahmedabad’s metro connectivity and the infrastructural development taking place in the region.
