NHAI Enters Agreement for Rs 673 Crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park in Nagpur

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has inked a deal with a private company to develop a Rs 673 crore Multi-Modal Logistics Park (MMLP) in Nagpur, spanning 150 acres. DC Multi Modal Park (Nagpur), a special purpose vehicle floated by DeltaBulk Shipping India, is the partnering entity for this project, which is set to become Maharashtra’s first MMLP under the PM Gati Shakti National Master Plan.

Operating under the public-private partnership model, the Bharatmala Project mandates NHAI’s subsidiary, National Highways Logistics Management (NHLML), to develop 35 multimodal logistics parks nationwide. The government’s contribution to these park developments is estimated to be Rs 50,000 crore.

This Nagpur logistics park marks the fifth project awarded under the plan, following the signing of an agreement in September for a 400-acre multimodal logistics park in Bengaluru, costing Rs 1770 crore. Other logistics parks are situated in Chennai, Indore, and Jogighopa near Guwahati, with the latter expected to be completed this year at a cost of Rs 693 crore.

The development of MMLPs is a crucial initiative by the Government of India to enhance the country’s freight logistics sector. The aim is to facilitate efficient inter-modal freight movement, reduce overall freight costs and time, provide effective warehousing, and enhance tracking and traceability of consignments, thereby improving the efficiency of the Indian logistics sector.

The Nagpur MMLP will undergo development in three phases, with an initial investment of Rs 137 crore for Phase-I, expected to be completed within two years. The strategically located site is approximately 3 km from the Nagpur–Mumbai Maha-Samruddhi Mahamarg and the Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai rail line. A 3.0 km rail siding from Sindi Railway station on the Howrah–Nagpur–Mumbai rail line has been substantially completed. Additionally, the MMLP will have access from the four-lane Nagpur–Aurangabad, NH 361, and is situated 48 km from Nagpur International Airport and 56 km from Nagpur railway station.
