The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has taken action against approximately 2,500 commercial establishments found to be in violation of fire safety norms. Notices were issued on Wednesday to these non-compliant entities, urging immediate corrective measures within a specified timeframe.
Last October, PCMC engaged around 250 women from self-help groups to conduct a comprehensive fire safety survey of all commercial establishments. The survey, covering 43,925 registered commercial entities, including hospitals, schools, shops, and industrial units out of a total of 75,000, revealed lapses in adhering to various fire safety regulations.
Civic officials anticipate that the number of non-compliant commercial establishments may exceed 1 lakh, considering the likelihood of identifying numerous unregistered properties during the survey. The notices served by the civic body underscore the urgency of rectifying the fire safety deficiencies at these identified establishments.
