President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the imperative to bolster the nation’s port infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency during her visit to Paradip, Odisha on Monday.
Addressing the ‘Boita Bandana’ ceremony, an annual festival organized by the Paradip Port Authority to commemorate Odisha’s maritime heritage, President Murmu lauded the government’s Sagarmala program as a commendable initiative to fortify port activities. She highlighted the Government of India’s commitment to realizing the vision of ‘Ports for Prosperity‘ and ‘Ports for Progress.’
President Murmu underscored the pivotal role of maritime trade in India’s economic development, revealing that 95 percent of the country’s total trade by volume and 65 percent by value is conducted through sea transport.
Highlighting the historical significance of the sea in strengthening international relations, trade, and commerce, she noted that literature centered around maritime themes has enriched Indian culture.
During the visit, President Murmu inaugurated the Multi-Modal Logistics Park, inspected port craft, and engaged with members of the local fishing community. This marks her second visit to Odisha within a week, following a three-day stay in her home district of Mayurbhanj and Sambalpur on November 20.
