SP Singla Secures Contract for Sonepur – Digha Bridge Construction in Bihar

SP Singla Constructions Pvt. Ltd. (SPCPL) has clinched the contract for constructing the new Sonepur – Digha Bridge over the Ganga River in Bihar, announced on Thursday. The project, sanctioned by India’s Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), will entail the construction of a 6-lane bridge on NH-139W, adjacent to the existing Sonepur – Digha Rail & Road Bridge, known as J.P. Setu.

With a total length of 6.925 km, including a 4.556 km long extra-dosed bridge and 2.369 km of approach roads, the project was tendered by MoRTH in January 2023, with an estimated construction cost of Rs. 2635.89 crore and a deadline of 42 months. Following the recent opening of technical bids, SP Singla emerged as the lowest bidder, with a bid of Rs. 2221.47 crore, significantly below MoRTH’s estimate.

However, during the bidding process, four contenders were disqualified for failing to submit physical bids along with their online submissions, while another bidder was eliminated due to insufficient experience. Despite the unusual requirement for physical bid submission, SP Singla’s competitive offer is poised to expedite the awarding of the contract without protracted financial evaluations.

Upon securing the contract, SP Singla will assume responsibility for maintaining the bridge for a period of three and a half years. The project, endorsed by the Central Government’s cabinet in December 2023 with an estimated cost of Rs. 3064.45 crore, aims to enhance connectivity and facilitate transportation across Patna and Saran districts.
