Under-construction Bridge Collapses in Bihar Raise Concerns Over Infrastructure Quality

Third one in less than week

In a troubling development, an under-construction bridge collapsed in East Champaran district, marking the third such incident in Bihar within a week. The incident occurred in Ghorasahan block, Motihari, with fortunately no casualties reported.

The bridge, spanning 16 meters, was being constructed by Bihar’s Rural Works Department (RWD) to link Amwa village with neighboring areas. Estimated at a cost of Rs 1.5 crore, its collapse has prompted an immediate departmental inquiry.

Dipak Kumar Singh, Additional Chief Secretary of RWD, expressed concern over the incident and assured strict action against those responsible once the cause is determined. District officials, including the District Magistrate Saurabh Jorwal, have already initiated investigations into the collapse.

Earlier incidents include a bridge collapse in Siwan district and another in Araria district, highlighting ongoing challenges with infrastructure projects across the state. While these incidents haven’t resulted in casualties, they have sparked concerns about the quality of construction in public works.

Authorities are keen on addressing these issues to ensure the safety and reliability of future infrastructure projects in Bihar.
