Mumbai Trans Harbour Link Set to Open Soon, Car Toll Fixed at Rs 250

The eagerly awaited Mumbai Trans Harbour Link (MTHL) is poised to open later this month, with officials announcing a toll of Rs 250 for cars. The state Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and attended by Deputy CMs Devendra Fadnavis and Ajit Pawar, along with other ministers, approved the toll proposal.

The Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sewri-Nhava Sheva Atal Setu, spanning 21.8 km and costing Rs 22,200 crore, is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the coming days. Minister Girish Mahajan emphasized that the toll amount was reasonable and lower than that of other highways.

To recover the costs of this mega-project, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) will levy the toll for approximately 30 years. Toll booths have been set up at Chirle in Navi Mumbai for this purpose. Although the project, the country’s longest creek road-bridge, faced delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic and missed several deadlines since its initiation in 2018, it is now fully prepared for its inaugural launch.
