Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister for Road, Transport, and Highways, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 12 National Highway projects in Kerala, with a collective investment exceeding Rs 1,464 crore. The total stretch of highways, spanning 105 km, is poised to generate significant employment opportunities, contributing to socio-economic growth in Kerala, as stated by the Minister on Saturday.
These projects have been strategically planned to improve connectivity between Tamil Nadu and Kerala, facilitating efficient and trouble-free transportation. The initiative aims to reduce overall transportation costs, with a particular focus on addressing black spots on National Highways to minimize road accidents.
Gadkari highlighted that the enhanced accessibility to Munnar is anticipated to boost tourism potential, and the construction of a high-level bridge will eliminate a 27 km detour during floods. This development is expected to streamline travel and benefit the export of key products from Kerala.
The announcement of these projects took place in the presence of Union Minister of State V. Muraleedharan, Kerala PWD Minister P. A. Mohammed Riyas, Kasaragod MP Rajmohan Unnithan, and other MLAs in the district on Friday. This infrastructure investment is a significant step towards fostering economic development, improving connectivity, and promoting tourism in the region.
