The Maharashtra government has designated Rs 145 crore from the district planning committee (DPC) for infrastructure development in various towns, including Sinnar, Manmad, Bhagur, Ojhar, Igatpuri, and others in rural Nashik in the upcoming financial year. The state government has approved a general plan of Rs 813 crore for the district in the fiscal year 2024-25.
Municipal councils such as Manmad, Yeola, Nandgaon, Satana, Igatpuri, Trimbakeshwar, Chandwad, Sinnar, and nagar panchayats including Dindori, Kalwan Niphad, Devla, Peth, Surgana, along with Bhagur and Ozhar, are expected to benefit from this special allocation.
The state government has allocated Rs 145 crore under a special additional outlay for urban areas in the district, covering all 15 councils and nagar panchayats. This funding is aimed at facilitating developmental projects in these urban areas. According to government orders, the funds will be distributed based on the population ratio of the respective bodies according to the 2011 census.
While there is a ceiling on the amount of funds allocated, officials emphasize that only works essential for the development of these areas will be permitted. Local governing bodies often face budget constraints, and this provision is expected to expedite necessary developmental projects.
According to a chief officer of one of the councils, obtaining funds from the DPC or the state government has been challenging in the past due to limited budgets. The new provision is anticipated to accelerate development in these councils, addressing the need for both regular maintenance and essential developmental initiatives.
