Afcons Launched Final U-Girder for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 Package C1

Afcons Infrastructure marked a significant achievement in the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project by launching the final set of 574 U-girders for civil Package C1, covering a stretch of 14.36 km from Motera to GNLU to GIFT City.

This construction milestone was achieved atop piers P4/7-8, utilizing a 20m long U-girder, culminating the process that began with the launch of the very first U-girder in December 2021.

In Q4 2020, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) had awarded Afcons the construction contract for Package C1, which involves an 8.124 km elevated section with 274 spans from Motera Stadium to GNLU, featuring stations at Koteshwar Road, Vishwakarma College, Tapovan Circle, Narmada Canal, Koba Circle, Juna Koba, Koba Gam, and GNLU. Additionally, it encompasses a 5.42 km section from GNLU to GIFT City, incorporating a bridge over the Sabarmati River and stations at Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City).

In December 2023, Afcons successfully completed the launch of all 340 segments for the Sabarmati River Bridge near GIFT City. The company is currently engaged in the construction of a 303m long extradosed bridge over Narmada Canal.

This U-girder launching activity marks the completion of this phase on two out of three civil packages in the Phase 2 project. Ranjit Buildcon had previously concluded the girder launching for the 6.478 km Package C1 (GNLU to Gandhinagar’s Sector-1) in October 2023.

The track-installation work for both packages C1 and C2 has been in progress since August 2023, led by VNC – KEC – Emrail JV. The provided image reveals tracks and rails positioned on the viaduct, awaiting installation.
