The Telangana government is actively advancing plans for a comprehensive master plan, slated for completion by December 2024, aimed at shaping the future development of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region (HMR) up to 2050. This ambitious initiative, spearheaded by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, marks a significant milestone in urban planning for the region.
Under the master plan’s framework, three specialized consultants have been engaged to craft detailed sub-plans centered around key components: economic development, mobility infrastructure, and blue & green infrastructure. These plans are crucial for guiding sustainable growth across the HMR, encompassing areas within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), extending to the Regional Ring Road (RRR), and beyond into rural jurisdictions under HMDA’s purview.
A cornerstone of the master plan is the Comprehensive Mobility Plan (CMP), designed to enhance transport systems such as metro rail, bus rapid transit, and road networks. This strategic approach will address long-term (2050), medium-term (2031-2040), and short-term (2024-2030) transportation needs, aligning with national urban transport policies.
Simultaneously, the Economic Development Plan (EDP) will identify potential growth areas, facilitating targeted investments and industrial development. This includes the phased allocation of land and infrastructure development to support economic opportunities across various locations within the metropolitan area.
Additionally, the master plan prioritizes Blue & Green Infrastructure (BGI), emphasizing the preservation and enhancement of water bodies, parks, and green spaces. Through advanced GIS mapping, existing and potential blue and green elements will be meticulously cataloged and integrated into the planning framework.
This holistic approach underscores Telangana’s commitment to sustainable urban development, ensuring that the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region evolves into a vibrant, inclusive, and resilient urban center by 2050.
