Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated airport projects worth Rs 9,811 crore on Sunday. The projects include the expanded Terminal 1 of Delhi International Airport, terminal buildings for Gwalior’s Rajmata Vijayaraje Scindia Airport, and the newly constructed Terminal 3 of Lucknow International Airport.
The virtual inauguration included new terminal buildings at airports in Azamgarh, Shravasti, Moradabad, Chitrakoot, Aligarh, Jabalpur, Gwalior, Lucknow, Pune, Kolhapur, Delhi, and Adampur. The Prime Minister also laid foundation stones for new terminal buildings at airports in Kadapa, Belagavi, and Hubli.
Among these, the new terminal buildings for Gwalior, Jabalpur, Kolhapur, Pune, and Lucknow airports exemplify the Prime Minister’s vision of “Development also, heritage also,” according to Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. He emphasized that these new terminals will contribute to regional prosperity and showcase the rich heritage of these locations.
The expanded integrated Terminal 1 of Delhi International Airport will boost the airport’s overall capacity to 100 million passengers per annum, making it the highest among the country’s airports. Terminal 3 of Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow will serve both domestic and international flights, with a capacity to handle 4,000 passengers during peak hours.
Adani Airport Holdings Ltd, the operator, revealed that Phase I of Terminal 3 can accommodate 8 million passengers annually, and Phase 2 will further enhance the handling capacity to 13 million passengers per annum. Karan Adani, Managing Director of Adani Ports & Special Economic Zone Ltd, stated that the master plan for Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport envisions exponential growth, positioning it as a key player in India’s aviation landscape and driving economic development, job opportunities, and prosperity across the state.
