Tata Steel Collaborates with South Eastern Railway for Sustainable Rail Infrastructure

Tata Steel has announced a collaborative effort with South Eastern Railway (SER) to develop sustainable rail infrastructure, leveraging its slag-based aggregates. Officials from SER and Tata Steel convened to discuss the project execution, as per the company’s statement.

Highlighting the importance of sustainable alternatives, SER General Manager Anil Kumar Mishra emphasized that such initiatives are crucial for ecological conservation. Tata Aggreto, a greener substitute for natural aggregates used in road construction, and Tata Nirman, employed as a raw material in manufacturing fly ash bricks and cement, will be utilized in the construction of blanketing layers for railway tracks.

Rajeev Shrivastava, Chief Administrative Officer (Construction), presented the plan outlined by the Ministry of Railways to enhance rail infrastructure during the deliberation.

In its commitment to transforming steel slag into sustainable aggregates, Tata Steel has established an accelerated weathering facility for processing LD slag through steam ageing.

The use of slag-based manufactured aggregates contributes to biodiversity preservation by reducing the reliance on mining natural aggregates and eliminates the need for transporting aggregates over long distances, according to the statement.
