The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) successfully conducted a trial run of metro services on the GIFT City-GNLU stretch on Sunday, marking the first time the metro reached GIFT City. Once the trial on the 21-kilometer stretch from Sector 1 to Motera, inclusive of GIFT City, concludes, GMRC will seek inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) for the final approval.
The next phase of the trial for the metro service is scheduled for the Koba-Motera Crossing section. Officials have confirmed that the ongoing trials will persist even after the code of conduct is enforced for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. With trials initiated prior to the election announcement, GMRC aims to complete the CMRS inspection by April, as stated by a senior official.
The plan is to commence commercial operation of the metro service for the 21-kilometer stretch from Motera to Sector 1 by June this year. The entire 28-kilometer stretch, covering from Motera to Mahatma Mandir, is anticipated to be operational by the end of this year.
