UD tax collection picks up pace as it approaches March 31

JMC Heritage officials said that reminder calls are being made to regular tax payers, camps are being set up in every zone, and special camps have been set up to collect the tax from marriage gardens, which owe a major amount.

Both JMC-Heritage and JMC-Greater are busy collecting urban development (UD) tax as the deadline of March 31 approaches for this fiscal. JMC Greater has collected more than Rs 41 crore in urban development tax this month, said officials on Monday.

The revenue team of JMC-Greater last Thursday collected urban development tax and advertisement fee of Rs 1 crore, they said. “We are hoping to collect another Rs 7-10 crore over the next ten days. We were given a target of Rs 90 crore for the current financial year and about 75% of the collection is still to be done. We are hopeful that we will meet the target this year,” said Shipra Sharma, deputy commissioner for revenue at JMC Greater.

JMC Heritage officials said that reminder calls are being made to regular tax payers, camps are being set up in every zone, and special camps have been set up to collect the tax from marriage gardens, which owe a major amount.

“Between March 20-March 31, we usually collect Rs 7-10 crore of UD tax. Regular visits are made to malls and other establishments. If they do not pay, their properties are attached. Then, the defaulters pay upfront,” Sharma said.

Officers given target and a warning

JMC-Greater commissioner Mahendra Soni on Monday gave a target of tax collection to all officers and warned that charge sheets will be filed against those who fail to meet it.
