Action Plan for Bridge Construction from Rishikesh to Devprayag via Pauri District

In a bid to bolster connectivity and promote tourism in Pauri district, Chief Secretary Dr. SS Sandhu has mandated the construction of three additional bridges spanning the Ganga River, linking Rishikesh to Devprayag. Dr. Sandhu instructed Secretary of Public Works Department (PWD), Dr. Pankaj Kumar Pandey, to formulate an action plan for this endeavor, recognizing the potential to invigorate various activities in the region.

The directive also includes the prompt commencement of construction for the Singtali bridge, positioned near Kaudiyala between Rishikesh and Devprayag. Addressing a long-standing demand from the local community, the initiation of tender processes for the Singtali bridge has already been undertaken by the Public Works Department, following advocacy from Rajya Sabha MP Anil Baluni.

Chief Secretary Dr. Sandhu, who had previously emphasized the importance of the Singtali bridge, conducted a thorough review of the project’s progress. Secretary (PWD) Dr. Pandey affirmed that initial steps towards construction have been initiated, with tenders invited for the first phase covering a three-kilometer stretch. These tenders are expected to be uploaded within the next few days.

During the meeting, it was highlighted that a portion of the Singtali bridge construction plan intersects with forest land. To expedite the process, Dr. Sandhu instructed swift completion of forest clearance procedures, emphasizing that construction can commence upon receipt of clearance. The estimated cost for the Singtali bridge stands at Rs 50 crore.

In addition to the Singtali bridge, Chief Secretary Dr. Sandhu underscored the imperative for constructing three more bridges to bolster road connectivity within Pauri district. He urged Secretary PWD to furnish a comprehensive report on this matter promptly, recognizing the transformative impact such infrastructure would have on the region.

Dr. Sandhu emphasized the significant strides made in connectivity through the All-Weather Road project in Tehri district, which has catalyzed business activities such as hotels and resorts. However, he noted that parts of Pauri district remain untouched due to insufficient connectivity, signaling the importance of these bridge constructions to unlock the region’s potential.
