Mumbai-Pune Expressway to Experience Six-Hour Roadblock for Rail Project

In a recent announcement, the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC) disclosed plans for a significant six-hour roadblock on the Mumbai-bound corridor of the Mumbai-Pune Expressway. The reason behind this temporary disruption is the ongoing Panvel-Karjat double line railway project, which is a pivotal infrastructural development.

The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) communicated this scheduled roadblock in a release, specifying that it is set to take place on November 9, spanning from 11 am to 5 pm. During this period, commuters should be aware that both light and heavy vehicles will not be permitted access to the Mumbai-bound carriageway at Chikhale, near Kalamboli. This restriction is primarily due to the construction of a Rail Over Bridge (ROB), a crucial component of the railway project.

The key objective of this temporary roadblock is to facilitate the process of launching girders, a task of considerable importance in the railway project. Motorists who are en route to Mumbai during this period are advised to plan their journeys accordingly. They can opt to exit from the expressway onto the old Mumbai-Pune Highway (MH-48) at convenient junctures, such as Khopoli and Panvel, as suggested in the release.

This development underscores the significance of coordinated efforts between the railway and road development authorities to ensure the successful execution of critical infrastructure projects. While roadblocks like this may cause temporary inconveniences, they represent a necessary step in advancing and expanding the region’s transportation network and improving connectivity between major cities like Mumbai and Pune.

It’s crucial for commuters and travelers to stay informed about such roadblocks and to consider alternate routes and travel times to minimize any disruptions to their schedules. The Panvel-Karjat double line railway project is a part of ongoing efforts to enhance the overall transportation infrastructure and promote regional development in this bustling metropolitan area.
