Indian Railways is making significant strides towards connecting Sikkim with the rest of the country. In a noteworthy development, Mrs. Jaya Varma Sinha, Chairman and CEO of the Railway Board, conducted an inspection and comprehensive review of the advancements made in Tunnel No. 1, 7, 8, and the underground station as part of the Sivok-Rangpo New Rail Line project.

The Ministry of Railways in a tweet said, “Smt. Jaya Varma Sinha, CRB & CEO, inspected and reviewed the progress of Tunnel No. 1, 7, 8 & the underground station of the Sivok-Rangpo New Rail Line project.”
About Sivok-Rangpo Rail Line Project
The Sivok-Rangpo rail line project was incorporated into the Budget in 2008-09 and spans a total length of 44.96 kilometers, with 41.55 kilometers situated in West Bengal and 3.41 kilometers in Sikkim. Regarded as one of the nation’s prestigious ongoing projects, its completion promises to offer alternative connectivity to Sikkim.
To ensure efficient execution, the national transporter has enlisted the expertise of an American consultancy team for tunnel design, alongside a skilled execution team comprising seasoned engineers and geologists from both domestic and international backgrounds.
