As part of the Bikash Yatra, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma marked a significant day, inaugurating, laying foundations, and performing bhumi pujan for projects totaling Rs. 1,208 crore across Kamrup (M) district. A notable highlight was the inauguration of the Elevated South Bank Corridor of the Guwahati-North Guwahati Bridge, a tree-lane flyover with two rotaries, costing Rs. 326.01 crore. The corridor spans 1.2 km from Bhoothnath to Machkhowa, featuring innovative noise barriers to control pollution.
Sarma also laid the foundation for the Rs. 116 crore Azara District Hospital, equipped with 100 beds and essential healthcare facilities. Additionally, he performed bhumi pujan for the upgradation of a 9 km 2-lane road to a 4-lane road connecting LGBI Airport, costing Rs. 358 crore. Another milestone was the bhumi pujan for the Rs. 408 crore Trumpet Interchange at Gauripur T Junction, aiming to enhance connectivity and reduce commute time.
Addressing the gathering, Sarma highlighted the ambitious 6-lane extra-dosed PSC Bridge over the Brahmaputra, connecting Guwahati and North Guwahati, with a cost of Rs. 2608.69 crore. He emphasized the reduction of traffic congestion near Bharalumukh with the inauguration of the elevated corridor. The Chief Minister outlined the city’s infrastructural progress, including recent additions like the Neelachal Flyover, Shraddhanjali Flyover, Dispur Supermarket Flyover, and upcoming projects such as the Kalapahar flyover and an elevated corridor from Pandu to Kamakhya Temple over the Brahmaputra. Sarma concluded by announcing the expected dedication of the entire Guwahati-North Guwahati bridge by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December this year.
