Crackdown in Gurgaon: 29 Arrested in 96 Cases of Unauthorized Construction and Commercial Property Use

Over the last four months, the newly established Enforcement Bureau police station in Gurgaon has taken action against unauthorized construction and the commercial use of residential properties in the city. A total of 96 cases have been filed, leading to the arrest of 29 individuals, including doctors and consultants.

The arrests were made as part of a crackdown on those engaging in unauthorized construction or utilizing residential properties for commercial purposes. Many of the accused cited financial motives, seeking additional income, while others claimed they were accommodating more family members.

Inspector Arvind Dahiya, the Station House Officer of the Enforcement Bureau police station, stated that investigations are ongoing, and more arrests are expected. Chargesheets are being filed for cases where investigations have been completed.

In addition to individual cases, the police have registered eight cases related to the construction of illegal colonies in Pataudi, Farrukhnagar, and Sultanpur. These cases emerged following joint efforts by the police station and the Department of Town and Country Planning (DTCP) to address the issue of illegal colonies.

DSP Praveen Malik emphasized that action is also being taken against the land mafia involved in developing illegal colonies, with potential penalties of up to three years of imprisonment.

In July of this year, the Haryana State Government established the Haryana State Enforcement Bureau to address various criminal activities, including illegal mining, encroachment on government sites, illegal constructions, Motor Vehicles Act challans, and illicit liquor trade. The eight police stations initially set up to handle water and electricity theft cases in the state were subsequently converted into enforcement bureau police stations as part of this initiative.
